Podcast Review
The podcast that I decide to review was apart of the Wisdom Project Podcast. I chose episode #004: Martin Luther King Jr., Malcolm X, and Robert Penn Warren (January 18, 2016). This podcast was about the preferred methods of nonviolent or violent actions that could help MLK Jr. and Malcolm X achieve their goals during this period (1960s). The oral history/interviews being used in the podcast was done in accordance with the Civil Rights Movement. Both Malcolm X and MLK Jr. were interviewed about their methods that they took when it came to actions and protests. MLK was in support of nonviolent actions and even had a Committee known as the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee. He believed that violence and hatred wouldn't solve the problems of racial inequality. However, Malcolm X believed in violent actions. He believed that being nonviolent in violent situations made people defenseless (specifically black individuals).
The music being played was only during the introduction of the podcast. it doesn't quite complement the story, but it was very easy to identify that it's significance was purely for the introduction.
The podcast was presented in the form of dialogue. There were parts of the podcast that were narrated in a sense where explanations about the the dialogue were given before the dialogue between Robert, Malcolm, and MLK were had. I feel like the podcast is a good form of presentation for the particular historical topic, which was the Civil Rights Movement. These interviews with Malcolm X and MLK Jr. were smaller fragments for a larger project for the Civil Rights Movement. However, this podcast specifically talked about the different methods (violent and nonviolent) for protesting/fighting for black lives. They talked about both violent and nonviolent are 2 different methods for the same objective which was to deem respect for black individuals as human beings.
